IHE Europe is pleased to offer IHE Eye Care Domain testing for the first time at the next IHE European Connectathon in the Netherlands.
'Multimodal Imaging is one of the key issues in patient care in Ophthalmologist's centers, departments and clinics. A large number of different devices from different vendors with fascinating technologies like the optical coherence tomography or the OCT Angiography are in use and have to be integrated into the daily workflow, the EMR systems, and the central Image Management platforms. The interoperability of modalities in Ophthalmology is far behind other departments, e.g. in Radiology, despite the fact that the number of modalities and the data volumes to be handled today in Ophthalmology are even larger. The IHE Eye Care Domain has addressed this issue in the Unified Eye Care Workflow Profile, based on existing standards like DICOM as well as HL7. However, these standards are not very well known to users and not fully supported by vendors. The IHE Connectathon is a good platform to leverage interoperability. Vendors with imaging devices, image management systems and EMR Software should take this chance to improve and demonstrate their solutions for connectivity. The good news is, this will be possible for the first time in Europe in 2018 when IHE Eye Care Domain testing is offered as part of the IHE Europe Connectathon!”
