News Pulse IHE Europe: 4th World Summit will come to the Connectathon 2020

IHE International’s fourth World Summit takes place 24-25 March 2020 during The Connectathon Week. For 2020 it is also incorporating the annual IHE-Europe Symposium. Download the Program


The meeting has three main themes each day and a host of global interoperability experts to present, with a Panel Discussion session around each session.
The first session on day one is ‘The role of Standards and Profiles for interoperability in eHealth strategy’. Jürgen Brandstätter, co-chair IHE Europe; a European Commission speaker; Dr Donald Rucker, national coordinator for Health Information Technology, USA and Henrique Martins, chair of The European eHealth Network, will present and discuss.

After lunch focus switches to ‘Interoperability in practice’ with a keynote presentation from Jamie Ferguson of Kaiser Permanente, USA; followed by a Panel Discussion featuring experts from HIMSS, COCIR, IHE Services and MedTech Europe.
The day concludes with the emphasis shifting to ‘The importance of image exchange in Radiology and Surgery for Patient Outcomes’ with keynote speakers Didi Davis from the USA Sequoia/Carequality project and Alexander Schanner / Pieter Devolder from the IHE Europe EU Affairs Committee presenting ‘The Imaging taskforce survey on sharing images in Europe’. The Panel Discussion headlines ‘Imaging and Patient Outcomes require interoperability from Enterprise to Cross-border level’, where clinicians from Surgery and Radiology domains join the debate.
Day two commences with VIP tours of the Connectathon floor to see interoperability testing in action. This is followed by a session looking at ‘The importance of good data for interoperability’ including a presentation from Dr. Wylecia Wiggs Harris, from AHIMA, USA  then a special broadcast presentation - live from the GS1 Healthcare Meeting in Paris - on ‘How GS1 standards can enhance patient safety and supply chain efficiency’.
The afternoon session addresses ‘Country perspectives and National digital health strategies’ with speakers from Switzerland, Adrian Schmid, eHealth Suisse; Belgium, Karlien Erauw and Lloyd Moussavou from the eGabon project, Gabon Ministry of Health.

The 4th World Summit closes with a session covering ‘New global collaborations on interoperability’ including Michael Nusbaum, Canada on ‘The Joint Initiative Council (JIC)’; speakers from the newly approved HIMSS/IHE/HL7 consortium and a final Panel Discussion - ‘Global Digital Health Partnership (GDHP) - Agenda and Country Perspectives‘ involving speakers from Austria, Korea, Portugal, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and USA.
